How to adapt or die
I posted this in a thread but spent so much time on it I figured I'd post it for all to read, loathe, piss off and cause Trolls to hate. But if it helps anyone even a wee then it's worth it.
HOW TO ADAPT OR DIE - By Mister Peabody
(Please note: If you're an AFFILIATE who does not produce your own content but rather promotes programs then not all these will apply to you. Some will, some won't, more on that at the end.)
1. Shoot more interesting/unique content. Sure, this costs money - BUT it costs more in imagination. True, just about everything has been done or tried when it comes to filming the sex act, but look around at what you see EVERYWHERE (or most everywhere). Now do the exact opposite. Start with that.
(But what do you MEAN Mister Peabody? Please help me understand....okay: STOP SHOOTING SEX SCENES THAT RESEMBLE CONSENSUAL RAPE. Let's start there. The nastier the better is not what will sell in the next 3-5 years. Use your imagination. if you cannot, get out of adult you're ruining it for the rest of us.)
2. Create either very interesting websites or extremely simple ones. Say WHAT??? You read that right. Here's a clue: see all those FLASHING PORN SITES you see everywhere, laden with FLASHING ADS that send you into POPUP HELL? Don't do that. It's like walking into a RedLight District with neon XXX's flashing in your face and the smell of chlorine and cum. (If you want that kind of shit it's available everywhere.) Create sites people would want to stay on for more than 30 seconds. Work on your "stickiness". be creative and differant.
OR
Create extremely simple tours. Simple navigation (4 links MAX). Get the surfer to the Join page ASAP and without them having to think about it. Literally design the site with your cock (or a dildo, if you're a lady) in your hand and the mouse in the other. What we have now are messes upon messes of ugly-ass tours.
(And YES I am guilty of some of this, too. LOL Do as I say, not as I do in some cases.)
3. Think outside the Affiliate box. If you rely on programs for your content then you will have less flexibility in some areas but more in others. Take the content, create sites that do NOT look like a generic affiliate/keyword blog or a freesite. Take the time to make the surfer think it's YOUR content. Treat it like it's content you yourself created. You are more likely to put some loving care into something if it's "yours" then if it's just some product you're hawking. Once your "not like everybody else's" sites are done they WILL be "yours" - because they're unique to you.
4. Help yourself out psychologically: "get over it" and move on. Stop beating yourself up (I know you do it), the world can do that to you all by itself without you helping it out. So many who started in adult a few years back or longer have not MENTALLY adapted. They cling to "the good ol' days" as the "bad new days" consume them. Here's a tip: everyone and everything you ever knew about the adult industry is DEAD. Today is a new day, the day after the funeral. How are you going to cope, pick up the pieces and live life again?
It's a new world, an ever-changing one, in life not just on the Internet. How you made money yesterday is not how you're making it today, and it won't be how you're making it tomorrow. Understand this, accept it, go through whatever stages of the grieving process you need to, then take a deep breath and realize it's a New Day. Can't stand the idea of "starting from scratch"? Then time to get out of Adult. You've had your fun here. Please trust me that, emotionally, you will be better off once you make a DECISION: carry on in this brave new (uncertain) online world or time to get out.
Once you go through this process of NOT lying to yourself but facing the Truth you will be able to more clearly think.
5. Focus on what makes you money, drop EVERYTHING else. Of course, if NOTHNG is making you money then it's time to find another profession. But if SOME things are still earning for you focus on that and drop everything that is holding you back. Maybe you built two dozen blogs or websites 3 years ago and are still working them while your traffic and ratios keep going down, down, down. STOP. Let it go (see #4). Just let it go. You're in the Paysite business but dating makes you more money. Go for the dating, let the Paysites die. You're promoting cams because you ALWAYS HAVE promoted cams; drop that shit if it isn't earning for you the way it used to, and promote the penis pills that are rocking for you. SWITCH.
It's hard to let go, especially when you've spent YEARS building. But you simply have to (eventually). Why not right now?
We stop ourselves out of laziness, ego, an unwillingness to learn YET AGAIN something new (a coding language, how to build a certain kind of site, etc). But you cannot let fear stop you.
In the end, there is no "Industry", despite the shows and conventions. We are ALL scattered businesses, big and small, some inter-connected and semi-dependant on each other, some totally independant. In the end, we must all do what is best for US. Manwin, CCBill, AVN, Playboy, TopBucks, Robbie, Barefootsies, Loaded Cash, Reality Kings - EVERYONE WATCHES OUT FOR THEMSELVES. It's time you did, too. Be ethical, be respectful, work hard and don't screw people - but look out always for #1.
CONCLUSION: So what does "adapt or die" MEAN, exactly? The above gives you some clues, tips and hints but eventually there is no "answer". In nature, no one tells the little bean plant how to reach for the sunlight to survive but it somehow figures out a way, every damn time. The "answer" to "Adapt or Die" will be a differant answer for every person. That's what's so maddening.
Therefore if there isn't a simple answer someone can kist give you then you must come up with it yourself. If you cannot then you have failed at adaption and you will die.
But if you do manage to figure out what works best FOR YOU then you will be like the little bean plant, still here after millions of years. Good luck!
