If you have a logo for "bigblackcocks.com" you can register the artwork - words on the other hand, is a much more difficult task, I agree.
I once paid around $550 to apply for a trademark for a project I was working on, and it was rejected (as text), and I was out the money. If I had submitted the same, as artwork, I would likely have been successful.
