If you failed more than just a couple you either went to summer school or didn't graduate. Now they move everyone on as a "promotion of excellence." My nephew had a grand total of 18 classes his 8th grade year. 6 classes per term. He failed 17 of the 18 and got a C in that one class and they promoted him to high school. They told my brother and his wife that they will never hold a kid back in 8th grade unless instructed by the parents to do so.
When my nephew got to high school they let him in a program that allowed him to basically turn his work in whenever he wanted If he got an assignment on the 1st and was told it was due on the 5th he could still turn it in on the 25th and get full credit for it. Basically so long as he turned it in by the end of the semester he got credit for it. They are basically setting him up to fail because at a job they don't let you come and go as you please and do your work whenever you want.

Ah, America. Money for prisons and oil companies, while schools can go fuck themselves.
