Then if you find your sweet spot, root and and relax instead of trying to crash course a few islands. The good news is... many of them are close together so you can day trip them instead of packing up and sleeping there. Rent a long tail boat for all day and let the boatman take you all over. If by chance you find the other island better, move.
One thing I will advise (unless you're going 5 star with excellent reviews) is don't book your whole stay in one place BEFORE you go. Book your first place for like 2 nights tops. Then spend 1 - 2 days checking out the island to find the perfect place for you. Often you will get there and it will not be so good, as advertised, too noisy at night do to a bar outside, or it smells bad, or your room is "broken" and you get stuck in another and they won't adjust your rate... lots of reasons. Thailand is the land of scams so this gives you a small buffer for any hotel issues.
All of these islands are winners, its just a matter if finding the right room / bungalow / house.

Excellent advice.
Stayed in a "resort" on Koh Chang a few years back and changed hotels immediately. The room smelled of shit, like the mattress was stuffed with it. The next place was perfect. It's been a long time but the place with the shit smelling room was really close to the Ferry pier.
