We prefer Directadmin, which Amerinoc uses, to Cpanel. Directadmin gives you a more sanely configured server by default. Cpanel beats the hell out of Plesk though. Plesk does some EXTREMELY stupid things which virtually guarantee that your server will be severly hacked. Specifically, by default Plesk sets it so that all visitors to your site are allowed to edit the site.

Absolutely. Although we've been doing server admin for fifteen years and I have some involvement with developing Apache itself, even we have begun to turn the hardware side over to hardware people. Figure out what you do best and do it, letting other people do what they do best. That's the only reason we don't live in mud huts anymore - because we pay the construction people to do construction while we each do our own specific jobs.
