For me the salvia was mostly about immersing in cellular wisdom - it felt very plantlike - strong cellular visualizations in some ways similar to the geometric visualizations you get with mescaline and dmt. Some sense of commuication with plantlike entities - slow, flowing, immersive, but kinda stuck in the immersion.
Pleasant aftereffect.

It's really unfair to compare it based on something like lsd or shrooms. It's an entirely different chemical group that you really can't have unrealistic expectations for based on previous experience.
People react differently to the same things. Some of my experiences i have been as simple as cascading sheets of color. Others have been completely immersive experience like you describe, yet more have been completely immersive in a very different ways. Like DMT you can have experiences with what you could perceive as gods or elves or whatever. Every time i've ever done it has been different, interesting and unusual.
