I never understood Europe and their ability to leave / enter countries without any border protection at all. I'm not saying the US is locked down tight, but at the major border crossings there is full passport control.
This is just common sense. Shouldn't you want to know if your citizens are in country or otherwise? None of anyone's business really, but if for some reason the government needs to contact you - death in the family, house burnt down, etc - they should be able to at least know if your in country.
As for Denmark... Sounds to me like it's police is weak and unable to take care of business, which is why criminals come in. Beef up the police and make the sentences longer for criminals and they'll have a lot less incentive to come to Denmark in the first place.
