I spent like half an hour crafting an email to Shap, and was just getting ready to proof-read and send it, when I read page 2 of this thread and finally noticed the dates.

Send it anyway. Shap is a good dude. He said above when he gets time he might reconnect with people from this thread and offer some advice. If nothing else he might give you his thoughts on the project and that alone could be very valuable.
