It's the same that was going on with oil. Investors poured money into oil, then instead of taking delivery, they simply sold it to be stored since the price was going to go up anyway.
Basically, the super wealthy are treating everyday commodities like a stock they want to manipulate. The only difference is when they start doing it with food, they are impacting billions of people just so they can make a few extra bucks.

This is a big part of it. I was reading an article a few weeks ago that said the two best investments as far as ROI in the last two years were Corn and Silver. The price of corn and silver have doubled in the last year and a half.
