Supposedly, "A Feast for Crows" and "A Dance with Dragons" were originally part of the same rough draft. Martin divided them into two books as it grew too long. But, with the poor reviews of "Feast" and such a long period of time between the two, I hope Martin did some serious revisions.
I'm holding out hope, but fear "The Song of Fire and Ice" series has gone the way of Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time."

I have to disagree with you. At first I shared these same sentiments, non of my favorite characters appeared in the last book. But after reading for awhile some CRAZY SHIT went down. Overall it was great book! I didn't expect it to be good considering the character focus, but it was. I can't wait to get home to dig into A Dance with Dragons!
