You know, I once asked a local movie rental shop owner years ago as to how much of his income came out of the horror section. He told me a full 40% of his overall income came from it. Which tells me that a shit-ton of people love the genre, and a large % of the population always will.
People who say they don't get it or doubt the marketability of horror really are sadly misinformed.
