You know, I once asked a local movie rental shop owner years ago as to how much of his income came out of the horror section. He told me a full 40% of his overall income came from it. Which tells me that a shit-ton of people love the genre, and a large % of the population always will.

That's really interesting. I think that a lot of times, an independent store can really make bank on carrying the thing that tons of people like, but which tends to be underserved, like with horror. Every few years, the mainstream movie industry rediscovers horror and acts surprised all over again that it sells.
I know, during the zine revolution, the stores which carried all the really offbeat magazines, whether or not they were adult like mine, could afford to do it because they made so much with niche adult stuff that they just needed to fill out the store real estate to have something besides those. Needless to say, a lot of those stores were my bread and butter, but, oh, did I give back whenever I entered one, I loved all that stuff so much.
