I spent 32 years in the UK and 7 in the US.

Id take the US standard of living any day of the week.

I know this will depend on which state and city you live in but I've been to about 14 states so far and some things seem reasonably common. I also live in a city, not in the boonies.

Houses are bigger for the same or much less money. (I pay less now on a 4000 sqft home than I did on a 1600 sqft in the UK)
Gas is cheaper.
Traffic (depending on where you live and commute) is less. Dual or three lane roads are very common. I haven't been stuck behind a caravan or tractor for 7 years ...in fact I've never seen a caravan in the US, maybe they're illegal ?

Downsides would obviously be no free medical and traditional type boozers. I'm trying to think of the last bar I went into that didn't have 94 flatscreens but apart from that, it wins hands down.
