You are spot on about that. Living abroad only exchanges one set of issues/problems for another. However, there is something to be said about living somewhere and being left alone.
I gave up a lot of things (mostly comfort items) when I moved to Thailand, but what I gained outweighs what I lost 10 to 1. It also makes you grow as a person and live outside of your comfort zone, which ultimately builds confidence, continues your life education, and reprograms your brain to be a global thinker, rather than simply an American (or whatever country you're from) who can't see past his own borders.
But I can say with absolute certainty that the grass is NEVER greener, it's just different grass.
