I never defended the American educational system, although, you'll get out of it what you put into it. If a student takes his education seriously in America, I think it will be on par with any other country. The difference comes in because we don't force our kids to do well. If a kid wants to slack off, we generally let them. In other countries, such things are not tolerated as much, both by the culture and by the parents.
Yeah, sorry to be snarky man, my point was, you are not making a strong argument. Even if true, it doesn't significantly affect hiring patterns or employment.

Thing is, enough different people have done the rankings that they are probably close enough to truth for government work. We probably really are where we have been ranked.

This ranking made the news earlier this year - reading, science, and math - we were #33 in reading, 27 in math, and 22 in science.
