A friend was working at the WTC (Tower Two), doing some IT work. Me and a mutual friend were going to meet him in the shadow of the Towers for lunch at 12:30. I was just getting up as my girlfriend was getting ready for school in the next room (she had late classes at NYU). She asked what I was doing that day, I told her, there was a pause then she said 'No, you're not. You better call your friend." I went into the living room just in time to see the second plane hit the second Tower.
I immediately called my friend because I knew he was due at work around 9:00 am. It was 8-something. No answer. Shit! Then we heard sirens, endless sirens, and looked out our front window, which looked out over Sixth Avenue and 13th St. If you looked due left you could always see the Twin Towers, just the Twin Towers, rising majestically over downtown. Fire, smoke, thousands of people running up Sixth Avenue, you couldn't see the Twin Towers anymore....
My friend called. He forgot his cell phone and turned around in the subway! My other friend never made it in from New Jersey.
For the next four days I, along with thousands of others, volunteered at St. Vincent's Hospital (now tragically gone). I gave firefighters water, massaged their shoulders when they were too exhausted to move but still wanted to get back to the burning rubble....
Gotta stop now. Bad memories. LOL Cheers.
