IMHO, the Ruger is not a good choice or a comfortable gun to shoot though. The S&W 638 is the exact gun I would suggest based on the OP.

EDIT: Yes, there is a lot to be said for shooting a variety of guns before you buy. However, common sense dictates that there is no need to shoot a full size Springfield .40 based on the OP.
