We are going broke now because of the housing market, not because of what's happening in the middle east.
If we woke up the morning the President announced we are on a total war footing, more than half of the population would suddenly be working for the defense department in once capacity or another. Unemployment would be nonexistent, everyone would be making money, and you wouldn't be able to buy a house because there wasn't enough people building them.

Where are they going to make this stuff? IN the old days they would just shut down some factory making toys and start making weapons, now they can't do that. I suppose they could take over abandoned rotting factories but times have changed, people are not needed as much in the manufactoring role as they were 60 years ago. I don't see war as recovering anything anymore.
