Happened all the time.
Our situation was very different to most here. We had to submit the set after it was shot and paid for and get a yes or no from an editor. Who then had to decide if he would use it and then we were paid on publication.
I always tried to do a casting prior to shooting girls, shoot some readers wives shots and some classic poses to see if the girl was any good. Then and only then did I think about booking her.
If on the shoot she wasn't up to the work, she went home.
A solo girl shoot could cost from $600 to $1000 a day.
So if it wasn't going to sell, we didn't waste our time and money.
For those who could compete in the market we worked in, it was great. Kept out so many wannabes.
