Okay, probably not the best perspective, but I am pretty sure I understand the appeal of both cars.
I'll compare this to the current car and the last car I had, both are pretty obtainable for most people...
My 08 WRX wagon vs my 02 Camaro SS. Stock to stock, totally different cars. The WRX has a smaller motor, AWD, a bunch of traction control shit, handles great and new was a little cheaper than the Camaro. Let's call this the poor man's GT-R.
The Camaro however, big motor (ended up putting a 550bhp motor into it), RWD, no traction control to speak of, handled decently unless you put power to it, and I had over 50k into the fucking thing and I bought it used.
From a daily standpoint, I am glad I ditched the Camaro for the WRX. It's still a fun car to drive every day. I can live with it. I know it will start, it will go, and the chances of it shooting a pushrod out the motor isn't very high. It goes around corners better than most of the stuff I see daily, it's pretty quick in a straight line, and I can beat most anything through an intersection.
From a "fuck that was fun" standpoint, I miss the shit out of the Camaro and I'm excited to build another one. I could get in that car, scare the fuck out of any passenger I had, scared the fuck out of cars next to me, it got a ton of compliments and a ton of questions and sounded like the world was coming to an end even just tooling around town. Half the time I thought I was going to die when I pressed the loud pedal because the car was just that powerful and unrefined.
How this relates?
The people who buy the LFA are buying it because they want to be terrified. They likely aren't concerned with paper numbers, they just want the shit scared out of them by a V10 RWD super car. The fact that it's out of the price range of most people isn't a bad deal either.
The people who buy the GT-R have seen the Nurburgring youtube video a billion times, look at all the numbers on paper and realize "Hey I can afford that and on paper it's fucking faster than a Saturn-V rocket" and Nissan was smart enough to put so many computers in it, basically anyone CAN drive fast.
They are two totally different cars in two totally different ranges made for two totally different reasons.
It's like the people who compare the Z06 to the Mustang GT or Cobra or GT500. They're totally different fucking cars.
I don't understand why everyone is comparing everything to the GT-R. I know a couple Mustangs that started out as 1500 dollar clapped out rollers that would walk the shit out of a GT-R in the real world... but at the end of the day they still spent 500x what the car is worth to make it faster than a car that just came that way and is way more expensive.
