A courthouse is considered a public building... try to whip out a cell phone during a trial... see how that works out for you.

And sadly he would have been wrong. I believe that the US supreme court ( if not state supreme courts ) ruled that if you are in a public place at a public event, then you forfeit the reasonable right to privacy.
That means they can be filmed.
