The bulk of their natural gas production is on the other side of the country and sold to ex CIS states and EU states.
I'm fairly certain that Russia also has substantially less natural gas than Alaska, not to mention they also lack the infrastructure to get it to Alaska and then to the pipelines (which lie across the entire state). Further, tree huggers will stop a pipeline from being built from the "tunnel" to tie into the alyeska pipeline as the majority of the state are either federal or state parks and wildlife preserves. Would be much more practical in that case and a similar political fight to just go ahead and drill in ANWR.
