All those lights and all that smoke and all those dancers are meant to do one thing and one thing only, be it Brit or Christina or whoever the fuck these days:
Distract the audience from the fact that this is bland, lifeless, soulless, robotic, meaningless crap "music" "sung" by barely talented "singers". Sad.
