PHOENIX (KPHO) -
A relaxing smoke break turned into a painful Arizona wildlife experience for a woman Tuesday morning.
The woman is undergoing rabies treatment after she was bitten by a javelina, which in itself is not unusual. The fact the attack happened in a Tempe business complex near Priest Drive and Washington Street is.
CBS 5 News was told the woman was out on a cigarette break where employees often feed the wildlife when a javelina took a chunk out of her derriere.
"Apparently, it was very common for people while they were out on break to feed javelina, so these javelina were used to coming up to people and then getting rewarded for it," said Darren Julius of the Arizona Department of Game and Fish.
Julius said Game and Fish wants to stress this type of incident is very rare.
The woman is recovering, although the whole experience probably doesn't sit well with her.
