Everything that happens during shoot is ultimately the responsibility of the producer. So producers MUST have liability insurance to protect themselves, and their cast and crew in case of accident. There's a thread on another board that claims the producer in this case was uninsured. Which, if true, is stupid because liability insurance is pretty cheap for the amount of coverage given.
In the 13 years that I've been shooting, only one client (for custom video) and one location demanded to see my certificate of insurance before working with me.
