I don't fully understand the purpose of critical mass rides. It seems they intend to agitate people on their way to work, as they're often held at times meant to maximize the inconvenience. They say they're meant to bring attention to the rights of bicyclists. Bringing attention to the rights of bicyclists shouldn't involve agitating the fuck out of everyone to do so.
A few days ago I saw them ride right through a busy intersection at full speed, causing the alarm of motorists... it was actually a pretty fucked up situation.
They would not appreciate motorists clogging up the bicycle lane obstructing their travel, so why do it to everyone else? How about if we did it by running red lights and stop signs while they were in the intersection?
The routine doesn't make a lot of sense.
The thought that goes through my head is not "Since they're totally blocking my way to work at 7:45am, I've had an epiphany! They really do have the same rights as motorists!"
No, the thought is more along the lines of "this is fucking retarded."
