Did you meet them on facebook or in person? I mean, yeah you see other people posting and acknowledge them, but it's not until you actually meet them in person that you get to know them. Since they're friends of your friend chances are you would have met them with or without facebook anyways.
Meeting someone on match.com or some shit yeah, meeting someone on facebook just doesn't make sense IMO.

Used Facebook as a way to find out we were compatible. Obviously soon went off Facebook and into real life. Facebook was the initial introduction and connection. I only have 197 friends. The people I have absolutely no physical connection to is probably 10% or less.
Actually a lot of my friend base today can be attributed to #Maryland on IRC. We used to have parties at each others houses and then my friend base grew meeting their friends. Most of my friendships start friend of a friend or neighbors when I move and then expands. I am not the type to introduce myself to people when out and about.
