MySpace did that too. The reason people moved to FB is the same reason they went to other social networks: because people they know did and they mindlessly followed. It's the only reason.
As for jealousy, some people probably are jealous of the success of FB, but what's more pointless, being jealous of a company you don't own, or jerking off about the great new features of a company you don't own?
Personally I don't see any reason to be jealous; there are plenty of successful companies I could be jealous of if I wanted to. I just don't understand the point of social networks.
If people want to waste time 'tagging' photos and pretending to be a farmer, that's cool. It's a bit like any 'cult', I don't care about people doing it, it's just mildly irritating seeing it everywhere and/or being lectured about how amazing it is.
