I agree that Android isn't quite as fast and smooth as iOS. There is a fundamental reason for that... iOS and all of it's applications are written in Objective C. The great majority of applications on Android are written in Java... any reasonable developer will openly admit that a compiled C program certainly runs faster than Java. However, the drawback for Objective C is longer development cycle. Add Apple's rigorous review process and you have a broken application market. The beauty of Android is it's free market model.
