I had to learn the hard way that MSIE is even worse than I thought it was and has to be treated like a disabled child when it comes to building a website.
My assumption was that any modern browser should be able to handle a basic theme. It's really strange to be that the "most popular browser" also happens to be a major liability for webmasters.
And quite frankly, if not for Internet Explorer, my assumption would have been correct!
So there's my answer... I've been doing this for only a few months and Internet Explorer sucks even more than I initially thought.
Now that this is out of the way, I would really appreciate if this thread gets back on topic and to anyone reading this... I would appreciate your opinion of which theme is better between the two?

IE has always been a problem to design for. IE6 was notorious for being pants-on-head retarded and CSS files were full of hacks to make designs work with it.
Anyway, appearance-wise the original theme is better looking IMO but since it doesn't work with IE what looks better is irrelevant. If it is broken you shouldn't even be considering it. If that site is live you're giving 50%+ of your visitors a poor experience and that's obviously unacceptable.
