I am new here on GFY. On foogie I have been a lot more active as it is a board geared towards asian content affiliates and program owners but we have hammered away on this over there for quite a while.
DamianJ... your defeatist attitude makes it appear as though you yourself have banged your head against a wall over piracy sites and have caved in. That's too bad, but to suggest to others that it is useless to protect content just because you feel defeated already is a bit irresponsible in my humble opinion.
This is what I did, and I hope it helps all of you other content owners just as much as it has helped me.
Have any of you fellow content owners thought about the location of filesonic? I have... and looked up a few Hong Kong Laws... I also informed all the file lockers during a round of DMCA's that I was aware of the laws in Hong Kong and felt it was appropriate for the Hong Kong police to now step in. Distributing porn is against Hong Kong law.
Because distributing porn is illegal in Hong Kong... I suggest you take a different approach. Start backing up every DMCA with a nice little report to the Hong Kong cyber crimes division like I do. The more content owners harassing the Hong Kong police about all the file lockers located in Hong Kong, the more accountable
someone is going to have to be at the end of the day.
Here is the link to get HK police involved...

How many of you have ever gotten a personal response back from filesonic? I have.

From their
alleged "Legal Department"... it was a joke. I could tell that filing a complaint against filesonic with the Hong Kong cyber crimes unit REALLY
REALLY upset him. He went as far as threatening to sick the FBI on me... and told me I was now wanted in Hong Kong for filing false police reports.

The entire letter was a crock of shit full of threats and promises about how willing they are to follow up pursuing
my prosecution in Hong Kong.
The resulting email from filesonic's "legal department" after submitting cyber crime police reports to the Hong Kong police shows me they do very much care about Hong Kong police getting reports about them. I sent out a DMCA to them yesterday... the links were deleted in MINUTES. They know who I am now. Same with ORON, same with wupload... I am not saying I get preferential treatment, but it sure appears as though my emails to them are handled with care.
Let all file lockers that are operating out of Hong Kong know that every time you have to send them a DMCA... a complete description of the content along with copies to all the file lockers' links for your content
and their business address will be forwarded onto the police in Hong Kong as well. I also for documentation purposes fill out my DMCA's with descriptions of the content so it is clear the content is porn and CC that on over to the police with my complaint.
In an ideal world you would go above a site operators head to the host and the host would show some responsibility and police what that site is doing... but that doesn't work outside the US, and these file lockers themselves are considered ISP's... so go above their heads... report it to who
will give them shit for their activity.
Clearly by reporting to the Hong Kong police what filesonic was doing, I rattled a cage judging by the personal mail sent to me from filesonics's joke of a "legal department". When any alleged legal department goes as far as the anger shown in this email... and with all the threats of sicking the FBI and Hong Kong police back on me... (chuckle...) I tend to think it had an impact. Filesonic, wupload, and oron now delete infringing links for my content outside their normal link deleting days (usually once a week for everyone else with these file locker sites) and my links vanish in minutes to occasionally no more than a couple of hours. (Mysterious, eh?)
Affiliates, don't cry when sales are down because the content you are trying to sell is too readily available on every porn piracy site you know of... DO SOMETHING... inform the content owners. And hey! If a content owner does not want to clean up his own content from all the free sources, DROP HIM. Maybe a dip in sales will make them wake up!
I can speak for my site only, but our sales are pretty fucking good ever since we started aggressively harassing file lockers. But, I do NOT send out DMCA to the image hosts for the samples images posted on these piracy sites... it's free advertising and a source of sales where I pay NO AFFILIATE.
Affiliates, if one site you promote for does not want to do anything about policing up the content you earn half on for sales... fuck it... move onto to selling content for an alternative site that is aggressively protecting their content and smile for a change.
And here's a thought... envision a piracy site with no members or guests logged in... after the piracy site earned a reputation for 1,000's of pages full of dead links.
