Which half priced Sony cam are you talking about? And I don't get the size of lenses comment, for these cams you can get zoomlenses as well, the only reason people use primes is because they are faster (meaning you can go up to f1.4) and have slightly better image quality. And whether you need a zoom or change lenses depends on how you work, I've been working with primes for one year now and really like it.
