Ultraedit is neither free as in free beer nor free as in free speech (open source).
It may be great, I don't know, but it doesn't appear to be free or open in any way.

I chose the editor that is fastest to use, possibly the most powerful, and takes years to learn - vim. Most who don't know vim won't want to learn it. Those who know vim will never give it up.
