The only other precedent to set would be to hold the programs accountable to the legal agreements they made between themselves and the affiliates. Then you'll start seeing programs paying out & then closing their doors.

Just saying & learning from the past experience. If you want accountability they have to be held accountable.
I think you are right. If someone is owed a lot they should consider going after them legally. I see one person here already considering it. But don't forget that even if it's only a couple hundred dollars there are still other ways to make someone pay. You just cause them many times more problems in publicity with their other ventures to the point where it would have been far cheaper to simply pay you.

Personally if I really had the money I'd rather pay what I owed to my ex-affiliates as opposed to having to deal with a bunch of angry webmasters shadowing me for the next ten years and trying to sabotage my future ventures. Trying to save three months worth of rebills and the last payments with this as the price would be a fool's bargain.

In this case if they really have the money I hope they will reconsider. Especially if the reason they are doing this has to do with getting some very bad advice from someone.
