I'm thinking that in the case of some companies like Gamma...they have been devastated over the last few years from piracy AND now "free".
I mean they were making millions over the last 10 years with Porn Access. But what is Porn Access? It's basically all the porn dvds from most every major studio in a big paysite.
Now...all of that content is already out there for FREE everywhere.
So they found themselves in a situation of watching their money drop. So...without any skin in the game (just licensed content)...they had to look at a situation of diminishing returns.
How to make money from all this DVD porn?
Well...everybody else is monetizing the traffic from that same content via the "Free" route of selling pre-paid ad spots (traffic) and whitelabel cams, etc.
So the time has come that they will now lose less money by going this route with their investment of licensed content.
Will it hurt Porn Access and other Gamma paysites? Probably not one bit more than they are already hurt. And why should they sit back and watch other people making the money off of tubes with that content and not get a slice of it for themselves?
Of course in the big picture/long run...it's all a race to the bottom in my opinion. But at this point they have nothing to lose and something to gain by doing it.
I suppose this will all sort out in a couple of years when we have a dozen or so companies sitting on their giant traffic tube sites and all selling cams, dating, and penis pills with the occasional paysite sale.
I honestly don't know if that's going to be long term viable. But one things for sure...it's better for Gamma to make money now than it is to lose money. And that's the bottom line. They are looking to make money now with this. Nobody can fault them for that.
