I used to throw bags for Delta a long time ago and we would talk about stuff like this with pilots. You are actually 100% correct, but not for the reason you are thinking. It's not totally about the weight, but rather more about the fuel flow.
Without engines in the way hanging off of wings, the threat of a fire/explosion is lessened. A belly landing with a 727 or without nosegear like this one is much less of an issue than with a plane that has engines on the wings that could contact the ground, tear off, spark, expose fuel easier, etc.
