There is good news and bad news.
The bad news is my previous agent turned out to be a criminal that is now being prosecuted. Because of that and the contracts I had with that agent it put the book in limbo with the publisher.
The good news is that I recently got a new agent who is working with the publisher to decide on the best possible scenario. This means eventually one of three things will happen.
1. The old agent will either be found guilty and I will be able to void the contract which will let the publisher then put the book out. Or, the agent could just volunteer to void the contract on their own, but there is little sign of that happening.
2. The contract eventually expires which will happen in about 10 months. This would free me from any dealings with them and I could move forward.
3. The publisher gives the old agent a payout in order to void the contract.
The most likely version is that it will eventually expire. The publisher would pay the old agent, but they won't offer much because they don't know how well my book is going to sell and they don't want to pay a potential crook a lot of money to allow them to publish the book and have it fail. So at this point it looks like sometime towards the end of next summer is the publishing date unless the old agent gets convicted or cuts a deal and pleads guilty before then.
