Do YOU like working for free? You expect your visitors to pay for the service YOU provide. Last I knew, most people's time was worth something. Which does not even get into the fact of hosting, programming, and other costs associated with keeping a site online in the first place.
Frankly, it reeks of a hobbyist mentality.
