That doesn't sound like someone who is completely misinformed or uninformed making knee jerk decisions, but rather someone considering various aspects of their own situation. Certainly not everyone should be armed all the time. It's wise to consider children in the home and whether or not they tend to get into things they shouldn't, whether the adults in the home are responsible, etc. Where I live in Texas, there are plenty of young people who are more responsible with firearms than my ex-wife may have been. It's all situation dependent.

Frankly, Aaron, if you aren't in the habit of considering the totality of any situation, that's more concerning. Do you shoot a guy coming toward you with a knife? NO, you don't, until you check what's BEHIND the attacker. You better make sure nobody, such as a family member, is in the line of fire or moving toward it. That's the kind of thing that worries me when I read a gun owner dismissing the idea that it's important to consider all of the circumstances.

It might be wise for you, as a gun owner, to think about being more discerning before black and white thinking with a weapon gets you in trouble.
