How many Canadians do you know? I don't know any Canadians that have a gun, whose family has a gun or AFAIK themselves know anyone who has a gun. I think it's really just hunters who have guns.

Who gives a rats ass if she shot the guy, emptied the gun into the air, or shot her own foot? The bottom line is that by her having the gun, she was able to stop the attack.

I'm not saying the gun didn't help her here, it sounds like it did, but what if the guy had taken the gun from her? Sounded like there was quite a struggle. And next time I guess the guy will go into a situation armed himself.
I think the US is pretty much unique in that it's fucked in terms of gun control. The country was formed, expanded and built at the barrel of a gun. Every solution to every problem in the US, or in US foreign policy, is guns. And if that doesn't work, more guns.
It's not a good situation, but it's never going to change.
