The original value of the coin minted in 1787 was 15 dollars, which if you adjust for inflation is around 450 bucks today, of course adjusting for gold prices about 1500.00.
If anyone watches Boardwalk Empire set in the 20's, Nucky gets a new lawyer who wants to charge him 80 dollars an hour, which at today's adjusted rate would be about $905.00.
