Exactly. Spiritual TRUTH has been TWISTED to fit human agendas for a long long time. I don't see that ending any time soon. Notice how a religion based on a personal relationship based on GRACE has been twisted into a religion of WORKS which fed off self-righteousness to produce the OPPOSITE of what that faith was supposed to produce? Instead of the Fruit of the Holy Spirit, it produced Wars of Religion, the Inquisition, Antisemitism, etc etc.
Redemption and faith is all about a personal relationship with something higher and above you. Real faith produces humility and a servant's heart. It doesn't produce anger and an unquenchable thirst for revenge.
While many people, understandably, see religion as a constant source of pain and turmoil, they often overlook the impact true faith has on quite a number of people. It has led to addictions being overcome. It has led to broken lives being mended into happy loving lives. It has led to a SENSE OF MEANING outside of the SLAVERY to the NEEDS of the self that can't be satisfied.
Given our current culture, it is all so easy to throw the baby out with the bath water. However, if you have an open heart and are really sincerely seeking, FAITH has been one of the few things that can turn your pain, angst, anger, or whatever into impulses that seek out others. In essence, LOVE. The world needs more LOVE, right?
Love transforms. Love restores. Love changes people for the good. And finally, Love helps us get over ourselves.
