if the defender had held his hand out he would have smacked that ball out and it could have been an interception. The smart move would have been to guarantee a 1st down on the 1 yard line or get a td with the nosedive protecting the ball at all costs. You would have a virtually guaranteed touch down , compared to a showy td that could have gone very wrong. Makes good tv though
