Those are things that might work as little tricks to keep you away from eating a whole Pizza... For me what works is going cold turkey (no fat, no sugars, small portions, low calories and I prepare all my meals) but I understand it could be a too much if you already a lot.

No need to do all this amazingly complex calorie counting etc
Eat healthy - cut out all the takeaway crap - eat fruit, cook vegies, rice, chicken, fish etc
Control portion size - 5 meals a day as Venezuela chic said too.
Have a cheat meal once a week where you can eat whatever you want.
Exercise - walk / wank / move around
