Just avoid plastic. You can buy milk in the old style glass milk bottles and toss out your tupperwear in favor of glass containers. I buy all my peanut butter, honey, jam, and other items in glass containers and then save them after they are empty to use as food jars around the house.
We do not avoid plastic 100% but I would say we are only exposed to about 20% of what other people are exposed to.
If you do use plastic for water jugs then I think "Tritan" is the best material. It looks just like any other plastic but is supposed to be the safest.
You can now buy some canned foods that are BPA free. Whole Foods has some brands that are BPA free. Avoid all canned veggies/beans/fruit to be safe unless you want your daughter to develop sexually at an early age and want your son to have a small penis, vote for Marxist politicians, join the Occupy protests, and sit around listening to show tunes.

I use to work for a plastics manufacturer making PET bottles for coke, deer park, etc. This was 12 years ago, and I never heard BPA mentioned until a year or so ago. Just taking a glance through my kitchen, I have a plastic toaster, plastic coffee maker, plastic water cooler with plastic 5 gallon jugs, canned food, plastic storage containers, and it goes on...
I think I'll work at replacing the coffee pot and the water cooler first, as they see the most use. Canned food is easily donated away and replaced. Storing food in glass containers is easy enough.
