The motivation for them to do that is not very big and they would stand to lose far more than they gain. By expanding their market share they would lose that "cool" or "hip" thing that they have now which is one of their major selling points and it is why many people spend the extra money on their products. They would be just another face in the crowd.
They are trendsetters, but their corporate mentality is not unique to them, it is just more widely known with them than other companies.
I would think we would have far more to worry about from either people like the .xxx idiots or lawmakers in general trying censor/control porn online than we do from Apple.

my idea is not how apple executes its business model. rather, MSFT & GOOG begin to behave more & more like AAPL in the way they create a total media experience for the consumer.
One can see how apple innovated the smartphone sector. Once they get into the TV sector, & tie all the hardware & software into a single cloud experience, they will have a high level of control over how their customers manage their media. Shit, luxury cars are now sold with ipod docks. Soon it will just be an icloud connection to an apple satellite.
