Adwords bans you at a whim like they did to SmokeyThebear. they don't like the wording of an ad, content of a landing page...bam you're banned.
Adsense bans when there is proven fraud, they work with you if there is a problem.

I was under the impression that everyone in this thread was talking about Adsense / monetizing sites, including Smokey as he speaks of receiving payments.
It does seem that Adsense treatment varies from person to person.
