For desktop KVMs, all the ones I've tried have been fine. Typically you switch CPUs using the keyboard, such as by tapping Scroll-Lock twice. That's more convenient than a separate remote. For IP KVMs, where the machine is far away, that's a different story. I tried a couple of lower cost IP KVMs that didn't last long. The third time I went with something higher end unit. For the desktop, I'd buy based on price assuming it has the connections you need and in the case of DVI assuming it can handle the resolution.
