My statement was about the fact that people get upset when too much power is grabbed too quickly, but not when it happens slowly.

I don't think that it's any kind of conspiracy. I don't think it's some long term plan by some kind of cabal.

I think that it's in the nature of people that serve high up in governments, i.e. people that seek power, to want to expand those powers. Once the government takes over power and responsibility for a sector of our lives, it never gives it up. The nature of government and the people who work in it is to grow, and continue to grow. Again, this is not a conspiracy, either long-term or short term, it is simply the nature of the people that are drawn to govern. It's rather like the folks that run large corporations. After a certain point, they are more interested in growing their power rather than growing their wealth. The type of person that runs a global corporation tends to be the kind of person that wants it to get bigger and bigger. Similarly the kind of person that gets into high levels of government tends to be the kind of person that wants the same thing. The only difference is that the government can use violence to enforce it's edicts, whereas the corporation cannot.
