Oddly, I think the new campaign finance laws actually hurt the Republicans. It turned the whole nomination process into a circus, with people being able to stay in way longer, and bringing in people who had no intention of actually winning just because they wanted to self promote.
I think after the election, you'll see both parties supporting a repeal of these new super pacs. They make it impossible to control the party, which is sort of ironic since people thought that all this money would give one person or party too much control of the election process, but the opposite has happened. For example, look at Newt Gingrich. Under normal election finance laws, he would be broke and have to end his campaign. But because he found one crazy billionaire to donate $5 million dollars, he's still in it and able to beat up Romney just for the hell of it.
